PREVENTIONs
Like every other disease/condition humanity is able to prevent stroke through making healthy lifestyle choices as stroke is preventable. In fact, up to 80% of strokes could be prevented through only healthy lifestyle changes.
- A healthy diet: As cliche as it sounds, a healthy diet is extremely necessary as eating healthy like plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating foods which contain low saturated fats and cholesterol. Limited salt in an individual’s diet lowers blood pressure which decreases chances of having strokes.
- Physical Activity: Physical activity is essential as it helps an individual stay a healthy weight as a healthy weight lowers cholesterol and blood pressure levels. It is recommended for children and teens to get 1 hour of physical activity everyday whereas for adults, it is recommended to do a 2 hour and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity.
- Smoking/drinking: We all are aware the negative effects of smoking and drinking but avoiding smoking and consuming limited alcohol is a way to prevent strokes. Cigarette smoking increases an individual’s chances of suffering from a stroke. The same case goes for drinking as drinking too much alcohol tends to raise one’s blood pressure.
