WHat is COppell Hosa?
HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. It provides leadership development, motivation, and recognition through different competitions students can participate in. Community awareness is the competition that focuses on bringing attention to a particular medical or safety issue, which is what we are focusing on with stroke.
WHat is stroke?
Stroke is an overlooked medical condition which occurs when blood to an individual’s brain is interrupted or reduced due to a blocked artery or leaking/bursting of a blood vessel. There are 3 main types of stroke which are known as ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA/mini-stroke). After experiencing a stroke, survivors can begin to recover through rehabilitation. However, recovery from stroke is a process that survivors need to continue throughout their lives.
About us
We are sophomores in high school who are currently raising community awareness about all types of stroke. In our eyes, stroke is an issue which is commonly overlooked by the population as people aren’t aware of the dangers of stroke. Every year, more than 795,000 people in the United States have a stroke. Someone in the US has a stroke every 40 seconds and every 4 minutes someone dies of a stroke.
Charumitha YHey I’m Charu! I’m interested in the sciences and taking part in HOSA has been a great way for me to explore these subjects while spreading awareness to our community. One day I hope to work with science technology and artificial engineering projects, since these fields are the most evolving and include a wide variety of topics to study.

Nishitha AHello, my name is Nishitha. I am intrigued by the medicine field because there are so many unique things that go on in one body and HOSA helped me explore this topic and open my eyes to all the small but great things that the medical field has. One day I hope to be a pediatrician and make a change even if it is small.

Arshia PHi I’m Arshia! I’m interested in the biomedical engineering field as I would love to include myself in opportunities around the working world which HOSA gives me exposure to and alleviate an individual’s pain. One day, I hope to involve myself in research labs regarding artifical engineering.
